Once a conceptual framework has been established for a project, we then spend time testing our assumptions. In other words, does it work? This analysis involves a series of investigations to confirm that the goals of the project (program, budget, social, etc) have been met. However, the most important analytical exercises that we conduct involve the performance of the project.
Every building that we design starts with the twin goals of daylight and energy independence, and we use a series of computer simulations to confirm whether this has been achieved. Quite often we find that it hasn't, and so we continue fine tuning the design, balancing the necessary changes aginst the building concept and goals to see how close we can get.
